System Names

Naming Conventions

All of my computers have names to keep track of them. It helps me remember what computers I have when they have a name.

My computers are named after things, people, or places that are significant to me. For example, my ThinkPad X1 Carbon is named Carbonious because carbon is in the name and it sounded cool. For computers which have had several components replaced in one job, they may become Theseus systems and receive a new name. I often change names with motherboard replacements. All system pages will explain their individual names.

There have been times when names have been difficult due to the things I like changing or the people I once called my friends no longer being around. Generally, names will not change. When a computer is named after a person, the name will remain because despite whatever may have happened, they were important to me at that time and I will respect what once was.

Despite my general rules, there are two computers that are expected to have their names be changed. Dyle and Durham will be receiving new names in the near future. Dyle's name is being changed because it never matched well. Durham is receiving a new name due to major external and mental factors.
